Subtraction By Crossing Digits Less Than 8

Subtraction by crossing means we will put a cross on the objects equal to the second digit and the remaining objects is the answer.

Steps to perform the subtraction:

  • Draw objects equal to the first digit
  • Put a cross on the objects equal to the second digit
  • The remaining objects is the answer.
  • For example let us perform the following subtraction

    5 - 2 = ?

In the figure below we have 5 balloons as the first digit is 5. there is a cross on the 2 balloons as the second digit is 2

Now there is 3 balloons which does not have a cross.

    So the answer is 3

    5 - 2 = 3

    Similarly

let us perform the following subtraction

    7 - 7 = ?

In the figure below we have 7 balloons as the first digit is 7. there is a cross on the 7 balloons as the second digit is also 7

Now there is 0 balloons which does not have a cross.

    So the answer is 0

    7 - 7 = 0
